Alain Belda foi promovido a Chairman of the Board da Alcoa em 8 de maio de 2008. Ele foi Chairman e Chief Executive Officer da companhia de Janeiro de 2001 a Maio de 2008; e Presidente e Chief Executive Officer desde Maio de 1999.

O Sr. Belda iniciou sua carreira na Alcoa em 1969 na Alcoa Alumínio S.A., afiliada Brasileira da Alcoa, tendo ocupado diferentes cargos nas áreas de Finanças e Planejamento até ser nomeado Presidente da Alcoa Alumínio S.A. em 1979. Mais tarde assumiu a responsabilidade adicional pelas operações da Alcoa na América Latina e em 1982 foi eleito Vice-Presidente da Alcoa mundial.

Em 1994 mudou-se para Pittsburgh já como Vice Presidente Executivo, sendo eleito Vice Chairman em 1995, Presidente e Chief Operating Officer com responsabilidades pelas operações mundiais da empresa em 1997, e de Presidente e Chief Executive em 1999.

Adicionalmente ao cargo de Chairman do Board da Alcoa, o Sr. Belda é diretor do Citigroup Inc., é membro do Board of Trustees do The Conference Board, organização mundial que lidera executivos de negócios, e é um Trustee do Brown University Ele é também um membro ativo Conselho de Negócios.

O Sr. Belda nasceu em Meknes, Marrocos, em 23 de junho de 1943 e naturalizou-se Brasileiro em 1982. Realizou seus estudos no Brasil e Canadá, tendo-se graduado em Administração de Empresas na Universidade Mackenzie em São Paulo.

Alain Belda became chairman of the board of Alcoa on May 8, 2008. He was chairman and chief executive officer of the company from January 2001 to May 2008; and president and chief executive officer since May 1999.

Mr. Belda joined Alcoa in 1969 at Alcoa Aluminio, Alcoa’s Brazilian affiliate. He held a number of financial and planning positions there until being named president of Alcoa Aluminio in 1979. He later assumed the additional responsibility for Alcoa’s Latin American operations. In 1982, Mr. Belda was elected a vice president of Alcoa, the parent company. He moved to Pittsburgh in 1994 as executive vice president, subsequently was elected vice chairman in 1995, to president and chief operating officer with responsibility for all operating activities in 1997, and president and chief executive officer in 1999.

In addition to being chairman of Alcoa’s board of directors, Mr. Belda is a director of Citigroup Inc. He serves on the Board of Trustees of The Conference Board, the world’s leading business membership and research organization, and is a Trustee of Brown University. He is also an active member of the Business Council.

Mr. Belda was born in Meknes, French Morocco on June 23, 1943 and became a Brazilian citizen in 1982. He studied in Brazil and Canada and graduated from Mackenzie University in Brazil with a degree in business administration.
